This tool converts between CEFR A1-C2 and CET / IELTS / TOEFL / PTE using official mappings (British Council, ETS Concordance 2023, Pearson Official Guide 2024, MoE CET-CEFR Study 2019). Shows bidirectional ranges. Treat as estimate; schools vary ±0.5 level.

Common scenarios

CET4 500 → UK MS

CET4 500 = B2 (close to upper). ≈ IELTS 5.5-6.5. UK MS still needs IELTS 6.5 — CET doesn't substitute.

IELTS 6.5 for US Top 50

IELTS 6.5 = B2 upper ≈ TOEFL 79-87. Top 30 needs TOEFL 100+ / IELTS 7+. 6.5 is borderline.

TOEFL 100

TOEFL 100 = C1 ≈ IELTS 7-7.5, CET6 520+. Above language threshold for most Anglo grad programs.

FAQ

Why no exact score mapping?

Exams emphasize different skills — TOEFL on listening, IELTS on speaking/writing, CET on grammar. ETS/British Council publish ranges, not points. Precise alignment requires taking both exams.

Is CET score useful for grad school?

No for most US/UK/AU/CA schools — IELTS/TOEFL required. Exceptions include some partner programs, some HK universities (CUHK/HKUST accept CET6 ≥ 450 as supplementary), some French/German programs that waive if undergrad was EMI.

How to put CEFR level on a CV?

EU companies expect CEFR (`English — C1 (IELTS 7.0)`). North American prefers raw scores. For China use CET/IELTS plus narrative. Don't use CEFR alone without raw score.

Why isn't PTE an input option?

Tool currently accepts CET/IELTS/TOEFL as source (covers 95%+ Chinese takers); PTE is output-only. PTE input support planned for next version.

Is my score uploaded?

No — table lookup runs locally.
